I suppose it's time for my monthly update. I just checked my friends list for the first time in ages and the front page was full of posts from people I've known well for years. It made my heart glow with the happiness of familiarity and old memories. Also makes me want to update this thing more often... Facebook doesn't cut it and Tumblr isn't social.

I'm on my first day back a very bad week long family vacation. The worst of it was a car accident where I might owe 3.7k of damages on another vehicle from where I hit them with a rental, which I most likely will have to cover due to lack of insurance (got the damage waiver on the actual rental, so at least that was covered). We'll see what happens with that. It was also good to spend time with family, and see my nephews and see my ailing grandpa before he passes away.

I read the Hunger Games on my flight to Alberta, and couldn't put it down. When visiting my sister on Thursday we went to see the Hunger Games movie and the book was decidedly better. I started reading Battle Royale (the manga) Friday morning and finished it Saturday morning, between visiting my brother's family. I read Battle Royale because multiple persons online were complaining that the Hunger Games is a rip off. I don't see it, though I agree the basic premise is the same, the concept has been in science fiction since before Battle Royale was made. I've also seen a Doctor Who episode with the same sort of premise.

Today I watched the Battle Royale movie and I still don't see it being a rip off. The manga was better, though my favorite character Mimura lasted a lot longer in the movie than the manga.

I told my roommate at the end of the movie that everyone died and he replied with "even the survivors?" XD

I finally managed to figure out most of the 6th chapter of my fanfic Thursday Morning on the flight back to Vancouver. With any luck will have it up soon. Yay.

I'm eagerly awaiting the next episode of TFS's DBZ Abridged because we'll FINALLY get to see Goku go Super Saiyan (how are they going to do it?? *bites nails in eager anticipation*)

I still have 10 hours of practicum to go. It kind of sucks to get through an entire course (teaching English as a second language) and then realize I don't like teaching all that much, (I'm better at taking orders and having structure when I work... so I need to find out what careers I can do that have structure yet are diverse enough to keep my interest. I wish customer service paid better because I'm really good at that...) Anyway I keep telling myself that at least I didn't discover I don't like teaching... while over seas in a different country. Thank goodness for that. I will sweat my way through the rest of my practicum and get my certificate... and then go on to look into other career options. :P Any suggestions?

I don't know how it is in Canada, but in the U.S. you cannot drive a car legally in any capacity without insurance. You can't even own one. I'm glad you weren't hurt.

Why won't anyone read Battle Royale by Koushun Takami?! You know the actual NOVEL? It's the only capacity I'm familiar with the story, lol. Sad I can't find anyone who's actually read the damn thing. (The lifespan of most of the characters is pretty short: usually you meet, get to know, and then watch die the same person in the same chapter). Also gotta love the Bruce Springsteen references.

I'm looking forward to DBZ:TAS episode 30 too. I absolutely adore what they're doing with the series, especially since I've watched it in its full, original capacity.

I wish I had suggestions. I think people who know about your situation better with that might be able to help you. I've decided to just keep going with my degree, to hell what anyone else has to say about it. It's what I want.

Yeah, a good friend as well as others told me that I should stick with teaching for now as it apparently gets easier with time. Which makes sense. It's just... grrrriiiinnndddd...

Anyway, because I forgot, what are you taking? I've probably asked this before. :)

It's okay, it's not like we've spoken about it in a while. I'm going for a degree in English Literature. Yes, I still haven't gotten that damn thing yet. XD It'll happen.

You read Hunger Games? It's so addictive isn't it? Everyone I know had the same reaction in being unable to put it down once started.

Sucks about the car accident. Least everyone is okay, that's something.

Sorry that you don't enjoy teaching. Yeah, it's good that you found out now, and it's a really good thing to have on your CV at the very least. I'm having trouble thinking of other career options that involves the certificate that isn't teaching or tutoring online.

You could try looking childrens book illustration?

I've only seen the Hunger Games movie. Keegan brought the books home, so I could read them, but he told me Katniss gets irritating after book one, so I skipped.

As for careers.... It took me 10 years to figure out what I really wanted to do, and even still I'm switching programs, lol. Only to a BA Env. studies instead of a BSc Env sci. but still. Good luck to you, whatever you do.

It's good you're still writing. I lost a lot of creative momentum by not being around creative people anymore. :(
I AM writing an Avengers fanfic though. :S It's not long yet, but it's amusing me and I think I might actually finish it.

Dunno, really. Probably land use policy or something. Or land resources use or something. I dunno. I know there are careers in my field, I'm just not really aiming for anything. ^^;

Omg, I've been enjoying Tumblr lately but it really isn't conducive to discussion at all! Thank you for sticking with LJ. I will be here until those crazy Ruskies decide to delete the whole thing. X)

Arg, I'm so sorry to hear the teaching thing isn't satisfying the way you thought it would be. :( I'm kinda biased but have you thought of public librarianship? It's kind of like customer service, except the customers are for the most part well-behaved, and it tends to pay better than sales.

However, there are a few markets (Toronto area, I'm looking at you!) that are GLUTTED with librarians because of the two MA programs in close proximity. But if you're willing to move the States, it has NAFTA status or something (it's supposed to be pretty easy to get a visa if you have this job).

*shrug* Just a thought.

Glad to hear you're having fandom joy lately. :) It's one of the best kinds of joy.
