Conversations with myself
Apr. 26th, 2012 09:36 pm15 years old me - Running around pretending to be a Sailor Scout
30 years old me - Still watching Dragonball Z
If I went back in time and mentioned this to my 15 year old self I would have stared at myself like I had two heads, asked "How the heck did THAT happen?" and given myself the worlds most pitying look EVAR.
The continued conversation would have gone something like this:
30 year old me "It's really slashable!"
15 year old me "It's so UGLY."
30 year old me "but... yummy slash."
15 year old me "... UGLY."
30 year old me "You think Ninja Turtles are sexy for crying out loud."
15 year old me "... okay you might have a point there."
30 year old me "Oh and btw, BACK UP EVERY FANFIC YOU READ ONLINE FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS."
15 year old me "yes'm o_O" *and still doesn't do it because she is le lazy*

Date: 2012-04-29 06:17 am (UTC)Other than that, though, I don't know what I would say. Even though I'd want to avoid the bad things in my life they did lead to some good things.
So while I'd LIKE to leave my younger self a big old list of things not to do, I wouldn't want to prevent myself front meeting future friends and learning lessons I needed to learn, and badly.

Date: 2012-04-28 02:09 am (UTC)... I used to run around in elementary school playing Ninja Turtles. When I ran into the guy I used to play it with many years later, he couldn't remember it. XD But this usually happens. For some reason, I remember my childhood with crystal clear clarity while most people seem to have forgotten they were ever a kid or anything happened to them before puberty hit. It confuses me so much people can forget, to me it's like they didn't exist or something. Weird huh?
So hey I finished watching DBZ and I'm about to start on the movies. Which ones would you recommend?

Date: 2012-04-28 03:12 am (UTC)Movies, eh? Well, since for me they're not canon (except for the History of Trunks, that's in the manga) I didn't pay that much attention to them. However here is the list:
1. Dead Zone - Never seen it
2. World's Strongest - Saw it recently and I want that hour of my life back
3. Tree of Might - Only seen the abridged
4. Lord Slug - Only seen the abridged
5. Coolers Revenge - Can't remember if I saw it or not
6. Return of Cooler - Saw it twice, it was okay
7. Super Android 13 - Saw it a long time ago, don't remember it
8. Broly 1 - Saw it a long time ago, from what I remember it was okay, and Vegeta was emo
9. Bojack Unbound - Saw it a long time ago, don't remember it
10 & 11. Broly Second coming & Bio-Broly - Saw them both a long time ago, don't remember much, Vegeta was probably emo, one had Krillin rescuing Gohan at one point, lampshading Piccolo rescuing Gohan (like seriously Piccolo the kid's a thousand times stronger than you) in an amusing way, and one had a cool ending.
12. Fusion Reborn - Seen several times as it had a couple nice Vegeta crotch shots in it, as well as some fairly gay Vegeta/Goku moments.
13. Wrath of the Dragon - Probably the best one of the bunch, saw it recently and really enjoyed it. (++ recommend)
Specials:
Bardock the Father of Goku - Saw it a long time ago it was good
The History of Trunks - Highly recommend it. HIGHLY.
World of Dragonball Z - Might have seen, don't remember.
Plan to Destroy the Saiyans - Was meh.
Yo! Son Goku and his Friends Return - Once you get over the ridiculousness, this movie is actually really fun.
Episode of Bardock Special - Never seen it.

Date: 2012-04-28 07:50 pm (UTC)I have seen History of Trunks. I'm going to deviate from the large sphere of the fandom and say I wasn't especially impressed with it. I don't know what I was expecting but what I saw wasn't it, apparently. I know, I suck. Then again, I'm a mutant when it comes to fandom related things. If everyone loves it, I'll be the one mook with the "meh" reaction. XD
I will try Wrath of the Dragon... but I'm not confident anymore about liking the DBZ movies so I'll try not to have expectations.
I think I've been spoiled by Naruto too much, actually, so it may be what's influencing my opinion of DBZ. For all its flaws and constant comparisons to DBZ, I think Naruto does a better job with narrative flow and character development even if its portrayal and treatment of its female characters leaves one wanting. At least I like the main hero better than I did when I first got to know him. Goku just irritates me.
