The Good and the Bad of NANOWRIMO:
http://scotteagan.blogspot.com/2010/11/good-and-bad-of-nanowrimo.html

Edit: On the subject of Nano, if I'm just writing random crap I can type out 1000 words in an hour. So it's not so much whether I can do Nano again, but rather if I have an extra 50 hours to spare this month and do I really want to spend them on writing?

I like it. And I think it describes very well why I only do fanfic for NaNo (and really, I've done so much pre-planning this year that I almost feel like I'm cheating).
Mind you, I don't ever care about being published. XD

Its not cheating to pre-plan Nano. Going in with a lengthy outline is actually suggested. As long as none of your preplanned stuff goes into the novel you're fine.

... Unless they've changed the rules heavily since 2008. o_O

As for me, if I participate it will yet again be 50k words of random crap that has plot holes the size of the grand canyon and weak if even there endings. So far I've done a Robot mary sue, a Reid/Donald mary sue, a Leo/Raph fanfic, and a sci-fi novel with a boy priest and a big burly prisoner guy and a civil war and none of it makes any sense whatsoever.

... Good luck!

Awww, you're so cute! That last one sounds interesting and full of opportunities for porn. :D

(Did I mention I already have porn? Twice. -_-; )

Of course you wrote lots and lots of porn! Porn is good for you!

... I was actually relieved during the Donald/Reid one when I could write porn cause porn was so freakin easy. The plot still fell apart, was hole-y, had parts missing and was horribly written under the 30 day deadline though.

However I know your writing and know you can pull off good shit :D Go go fight fight!

And this one will be slightly less cracktastic than last year! XD (And it's only going to have TWO Kiefer Sutherlands instead of like... twelve. XD )

It will also have lesbians! And maybe even het sex! I'm diversifying!

Also, also. Somehow my Kuronue has turned into a ginger forty-something, very sexually experienced very gay NYC copper who really isn't even pretty, even if he does have an incredible cock-sucking mouth. And then I wrote tentacle porn. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN, ASHKE? *CLINGS*

"if I have an extra 50 hours to spare this month and do I really want to spend them on writing?"

My answer to this for me is always yes, whether I'm doing it for a contest, or not. :)

lol why don't you do Nano? Or do you? Do I have you on my friends list over there?

I don't do Nano because I already have two fan fictions I'm working on going and two original novels. I always have a writing project going on. Fan fiction I just write for fun of course, and I plan on having both of my original novels published when I'm finished with them. Personally I've never been interested in writing contests. I'd say way but I know I'd just end up sounding like a snob, so I won't. XD

Aw, tell us anyway? And good luck with the four writing projects. Thats a lot to have going on at one time. o_O

I don't see any point to a writing contest like Nano. Winning doesn't carry the implied prestige getting published does. Even though I pretty much made zero money off my novel, that wasn't the point. It was having it bound and available as a copy a person could hold in their hands. (Yes, those eletronic books are lost to me; I think they're just a novelty, they can't replace the hundreds of thousands of titles out there). Besides there's the whole quality-vs-quantity issue I have with it too. Anyway, that's how I feel about it. Told you I'd wind up sounding snobby. XD

I have so many going on because sometimes I need a break from one so I don't run it into the ground. But I'll still have some ideas for other things, so I'll switch to another one. I like having a lot of different things to work on. :)

I've tried nanowrimo and failed. But only once. I think.
>_>

I tend to drown the monotony of my life in World of Warcaft (zomg one-shotting other players with a rogue is fun! *cough*). I think I need to get back to doing art. Writing might be asking just a bit too much of myself.

Aww... work on your art instead? You can make it a nano like challange... draw something each day, even if it is small. Draw yourself shooting people as a rogue ;)

Yes but then we'd all be sad that we can't turn out a billion novels a year like Stephen King can...

Dude... I so don't know how some authors can shurn out billions of books a year. I have enough trouble attempting nano. -_-
It also makes me question the quality of these books. >_>
